Spring Break Camp Round-Up 2013

Spring break is almost here! A list of fun spring break camps for your children are listed below.

March 18 – 22

Ruffner Mountain
9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Ages 5-10
Members $30, Non Members $40 per day

Ruffner Mountain Spring Break Camp is available for one day or multiple days.  All camps include two snacks. Planned themes include:

March 18: Dirt Diggin
March 19: Arts and Nature
March 20: Leap Into Spring
March 21: Wetland Wonders
March 22: Geology Rocks

March 26: Arts and Nature
March 27: Dirt Diggin
March 28: Wetland Wonders

Extended care is available from 7:30 AM – 9 AM ($5/day) and 3 PM – 5:30 PM ($5/day).  You may sign your child up for one day or multiple days. All camps include two snacks.


March 19 – 20
Villager Yoga
9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
Ages 5-12
$65 single day
$115 both days

March 27 – 28
8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. 

Yoga offers a two day spring break camp.  A healthy snack will be included.
March 19: Strong and Balanced. 
Campers will explore physical and mental strength in yoga poses, activities, and games.  This will be an active class incorporating balancing poses, mindfulness exercises, and breathing techniques.
March 20: Calm and Centered.
Campers will work alone and with partners to find a calm body and mind.  Children will leave feeling relaxed after learning self-soothing poses, breathing exercises, and fun self-care rituals like face and hand massages.

Birmingham Children’s Theatre
Spring Break Intensive
Ages 6 – 12

BCT camps offer children an opportunity to refresh or learn skills in acting, dancing, and puppetry at the Birmingham Children’s Theatre Spring Break Intensive. During the Spring Break Intensive, campers will be immersed in theatre for one-week of learning with BCT’s team of experienced professionals and instructors.Tuition discounts are available when enrolling multiple students in one session.

The McWane Science Center Spring Break Camp mixes learning with hands-on activities.

Preschoolers in 4k: Bugs and Butterflies, Music Mania, Things that go Bounce, Dino Might, Rumble in the Jungle, Sensational Seasons, Astro Tots, Animal Antics, Ocean Commotion, and Messy Masters.

1st-3rd   graders:  Young Engineers, Animal Encounter, Weather Watcher, Illusion Confusion, Ziploc Experiments, Life Cycles and Food Chains, Zap! Electricity Lab, Migration Marvels, Dino-Quest, and Double Bubble Trouble.

4th-6th graders: Power Plants, Super Structures, Isaac’s Apple, Living in Space, Scope it Out, Cool Chemistry, Migration Marvels, Robots Rule, Brain Waves, and Forensic Files.

Birmingham Zoo
8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Ages 9-12

The Birmingham Zoo spring break camp schedule consists of the following activities:

March 18: Animal Super Heroes. Campers will learn about animals with remarkable abilities.
March 19: The Amazing Race which explains why certain animals are fast or slow.
March 20: Water Wonders. Campers learn about animals that live in the ocean.
March 21: Fun in the Sun day. Campers are educated about animals living in the hot desert environment.
March 22: The Scoop on Poop. They will learn why animal poop has an odor.

Before Care: $2 for members, $3 for non-members
After Care: $8 for members, $10 for non-members

The Birmingham Museum of art is offering several days of free activities for your children to enjoy during Spring Break

March 19: Hippo Adventures! 10:30 a.m. – 11:3o a.m.  FREE admission.

March 20: Hippo’n Over to the BMA for Spring Break Fun!
Begins at 10 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.  FREE admission.
10 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. is Bart’s Art Cart, games, and hippo activities!
11 a.m. is Bart’s Books
1 p.m. Watch Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted

March 23: Hippo Adventures! And Bart’s Art Cart
Hippo Adventures is at 10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.   FREE admission
Bart’s Art Cart is at 11:00 a.m. and lasts for 2 hours.  FREE admission.
Children will be able to decorate their own animal cup and saucer with a hippo or their favorite animal.

March 27: Hippo’n Over to the BMA for Spring Break Fun!
Begins at 10 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.  FREE admission.

Red Mountain Theater Spring Workshop

The Red Mountain Theater Spring Workshop will feature in-depth instruction in the three disciplines of musical theatre: music, acting and dance. Campers will learn introductory acting ensemble work, stage and body positions, acting as story-telling with the full body and voice, and how to be a good audience member. They will also learn the basic positions of dance, as well as basic steps. Vocally, students will learn techniques to make every song their best, auditioning tips and how to pick the best songs for their voices.

Full-day camps at the YMCA allow campers to participate in organized games, swimming, playtime (WII, basketball, etc.), and go on daily field trips. Campers will be grouped by aged and led by a counselor.

The LJCC Spring Break Tennis Camp may excite your child about the wonderful sport of tennis! Your child will learn the proper footwork and racket technique needed to control the placement and speed of the ball. Children will gain confidence using fun target drills where they receive rewards for hitting the targets! Each time a child hits a target or gets a point, you can see the excitement and pride in their accomplishments! Your child will become more and more confident with each ball that they successfully hit over the net, each target they hit and each point that they get for their team! The students become more consistent with their shots through fun games that build their confidence. Competitive games are implemented to work on strategy and mental toughness.
