Birmingham Zoo Offers $5 Fun Days Two Weekends in a Row

Birmingham ZooThe Birmingham Zoo invites the entire community to visit the Zoo during $5 Fun Days sponsored by Wells Fargo. Guests can take advantage of two weekends worth of $5 admission Friday, August 3rd through Sunday, August 5th and Friday, August 10th through Sunday, August 12th. To add to the excitement of $5 Fun Days, guests can see animals in action while learning how the Zoo provides enrichment to encourage the animals to exhibit natural behaviors they display in the wild. Enrichment activities are used by Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) accredited zoos to provide a stimulating and challenging environment for the animals to help keep them mentally and physically fit. Visitors can see an orangutan solve food puzzles, elephants play with watermelons, lions swat at a piñata and many more exciting enrichment demonstrations. Also, chefs from the Culinary Institute of Virginia College will showcase the techniques of blowing sugar and carving ice into the shapes of animals. Following the demonstrations, the elephants will enjoy the ice sculpture as it melts.

Guests will also have the chance to take part in a Get Rhythm!® African Drum Circle in the Children’s Zoo and can get $1 hotdogs at the Safari Café and Kudzoo Café during the event.

Kids can create their own animal masks, join a parade and have their faces painted. In addition, guests can enjoy the Kiwanis Giraffe Encounter, Trails of Africa, Sea Lion Splash Show, Wildlife Show, Boma Encounter, Predator Zone, feed the giraffes, watch alligator and pelican feedings and so much more. Guests can experience all the Zoo has to offer during this event.
